Scottish Summer Meet Success For Swim Team

25 swimmers from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) made the long journey up to Aberdeen for the Scottish Summer Meet.  The Summer Meet, which the swimmers have to qualify for with the March to May qualification window, is one of the final major competitions for the season, only the British Summer Championships follow it.  The top 20 swimmers in each event, who have not qualified for the British Championships, contest for the summer titles.  A strong ELST team contested for honours over the three days in Aberdeen, coming away with 21 medals, 2 East District Records and 2 National Records.

 

Stefan Krawiec (12 years) once again challenged the record books with two gold medals in the 50m and 100m Butterfly, breaking the 12 Years National records in both events.  He also picked up the gold medal in the 200 Freestyle. Christen Russell (16 Years) claimed multiple medals in her favoured Breaststroke events, striking gold in the 100m Breaststroke and narrowly missing out on the top spot in the 200m, picking up the silver medal.  Sean Craigmile (15 Years) continued his recent good run of form with 4 medals over the weekend, claiming the Silver’s in the 400m Freestyle, 400m IM and 100m Backstroke as well as also picked up a bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke.  Sean will now be turning his attentions to the British Championships later this month, where he will be competing in the 200m Backstroke.  Another one of our British Championship contenders, Lucy Lucas also had a very successful meet, claiming a Gold medal in the 100m Backstroke and a well deserved Silver medal in the 200m Backstroke.  Lucy will be competing in the 50m Backstroke alongside Sean in Sheffield in the coming weeks.  Finlay Hart (17 Years) claimed a silver medal, wrapping up a strong season, in his favoured event the 200m Butterfly.

 

Louisa Stoddart (13 Years) continued her outstanding run of results through this season, with Gold medals in the 50m and 100m Butterfly, and picked up the Bronze medal the challenging 200m Butterfly.  Louisa’s training partner, Iona Wilson (14 Years) also claimed the Bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly, as well as a Bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly.  Calum Peebles (12 Years) had a storming weekend, claiming Gold Medals in the 1500m and 400m Freestyle, again wrapping up a very successful season from the Tranent youngster.  Meagan Porteous (13 Years) came away from the meet with a Silver medal in the 200 Freestyle and a Bronze medal in the 50m Freestyle.

 

This was a very successful meet for the programme as a whole, with countless top 10 finishes as well as the 21 medal that were achieved.  ELST head coach Bruce Halloran said:

“We love the Scottish Summer Meet, it gives the swimmers a chance to finish the season on a high.  They are able pulling on all the skills, knowledge and physical gains that they have achieved over the course of the 11 months of the season, to lay down the best performances possible.  We now move onto the last competition of the season, the British Summer Championships where we have the above-mentioned Sean and Lucy but was also have Bridget Lemasurier and Hope Gordon competing.  The British kicks off on the 24thJuly for 6 days.  We wish them the best of luck”
